Super Science

During Small Schools Week we had a Science morning with Anne from Sam's Simple Science. We made our own silly putty and lava lamps. We talked about what happens to liquids when we mix them together.

We learnt that oil and water do not mix together, so we used these liquids for our lava lamps. Other liquids when mixed together foamed up!

Here are some pictures of our Science morning.

Investigating the pieces of bark in the bark area

Today we have been learning about area and perimeter, we have also learned about quadrilaterals, irregular pentagon and compound shapes. We drew the bark area and we separated compound shapes into simple shapes to help us calculate the area easier.
We have also estimated a one metre squared space with border tape - we were only 10cm out - not bad! We thought that was going to be too big to count all of the pieces of the bark area so we made and measured, 10cm x 10cm squares to use instead.
We used trundle wheels today to find the perimeter of the bark area and with our measurements we were able to calculate the area by using the simple shapes we had created from the compound shapes.
Tomorrow we will be continuing our investigation to find out how many pieces of bark are in the bark area.
