Inverse!

Today in maths we were looking at how we can use inverse to check if our calculations are correct.
Inverse means the opposite.

For example the inverse of addition is subtraction.

We were completing tricky addition sums and then using the inverse (subtraction) to check if they were correct.

Example:

234 + 144 = 378  then we used subtraction to double check!

378 - 144 = 234! Yep! We got it right!

Simeon's Super Maths!

Today we were finding the inverse of tricky sums. The inverse is like the opposite.
The inverse of addition is subtraction and the inverse of division is multiplication.

Simeon worked extremely hard and completed lots of sums using inverse. He worked efficiently, didn't chat and put his hand up when he wanted his work checked! I'm sure you'll all agree that Simeon's work is beautifully presented too!

Stone Age Big Writing!

For Big Writing we were transported back in time to the Stone Age! We had to write a letter home telling our friends or family what we could see, smell, taste, hear and feel.

We discussed our ideas and had to think back to our topic on the Stone age to help us!

Here is Finley, Kaia and Meadow's letter. They worked in a group with Miss Groves sharing ideas before writing.

Light and shadow!

Our new science topic is light and shadow.

Today we learnt that a shadow is made when an object blocks a light source.
We went out into the playground with our shadows and tried to get away from them! It wasn't easy!
We found 2 ways of getting away from your shadow.
1) To hide in a shadowy place or in someone else's shadow.
2) Jump up high to get away from our shadow!

Here are some pictures of us getting away from our shadow

We then came inside and discussed what would happen to our shadow as the sun moves throughout the day.  We think that our shadow will move even if we stand in the same place!

We will investigate that next lesson!

Here is a photo of Kaia's diagram and her thought shower of everything she knows and what Kaia would like to find out during our topic.
