Wormery

For our science topic on habitats I made a wormery.

Inside it I put:
Leaves
Soil
Sandwomery
Mud
water
worms

We put the soil  and sand in the wormery in layers, it looked really neat. Now the sand and soil is mixed because the worms have been moving around and tunneling.

Every day I check on the  to make sure that the worms are still okay. I usually give the worms 10 mls of water a day but today I put in 15mls

because it is hot today.

Here are some pictures of our wormery.

Super, fantastic D&T (Post name by Dylan!)

Today in D&T we painted our packages. Our packages have been designed to hold a popular 60s toy. We had to think carefully about the colour we chose and use our skills from art to successfully paint our boxes.

Here are some pictures of our fantastic work!

Persuasive Writing

For Big Writing this week we were writing persuasive letters. Some of us chose to write to our favourite sport coach/ manager/ chairman and others chose to write a letter to Miss Worsley.

Below are 2 examples to brilliant writing demonstrated by year 3 and 4 today.

Dear Daniel Levy,
I am writing to see if you could sign me as a goalkeeper for Spurs. If you agree, like everyone else, I know that Spurs would be at the top of the league in no time! I would be a Spurs legend, everyone knows that you are the best chairman to ever step foot on Earth. Please sign me.

Yours Sincerely,

Bradley

Dear Miss Worsley,
I am writing to you because I would like to know if we could have Monday, Tuesday and Thursday off. Everybody agrees that you work too hard everyday and if you let us you can have a big lay in and have breakfast in bed and have more family time as well.
So I hope you like the idea to have Monday, Tuesday and Thursday off and I would be very grateful if you get in touch soon.

Yours Sincerely,

Grace

Designing packages!

Our topic for D&T is to design a package for a 1960s toy.
I chose to design a box for a pinball machine.

First we measured and drew a net for our 3D shape (mine was a cuboid) then, we glued it onto card and cut it out.
After, Miss Groves scored out the middle of the front of my package to make a little window.

Tomorrow we are going to paint our packages. Keep looking for more pictures!

Shape!

This week in maths we've been looking at shape! We've learnt the mathematical vocabulary to describe the properties of 3D shapes. Then, we answered tricky questions all to do with shape and their properties. Here are some pictures of our learning.

Responding to poetry

In our Literacy lesson today, we listened to some poems by Christina Rossetti. Then, we drew pictures of what we saw.
It's important that when we write for an audience that we use good vocabulary and imaginative words to create a vivid picture for the reader.

Here are some examples of our work today. We used different art materials to create our pictures. We hope you like them!

Congratulations Callum!

On Friday I attended Chess Valley Rugby Club award ceremony.

My trophy was one of 3 awarded to my age group and was for the following-

The Sportsmanship Award
Chosen by the Team Manager and Coaches. For the player who, throughout the season, has shown that they do not give up, that they are willing to continuously develop and demonstrate consistent strength of character and discipline.

Well done Callum! We're very proud of you!

Authors!

To round off our Authors and letters topic we researched our favourite author!

We then had to present our research to the rest of the class anyway we liked. Some of us created a poster while other's hot seated eachother!

Here are some pictures of our presentations.

Creating Images

Our new literacy topic is called 'Creating Images' it's all about poetry!

We're using adjectives, similes and exciting vocabulary to create a vivid image in our audience's mind!

This is our favourite poem!

The Hunter
I prowl across the patio,
A hunter in the dark.
As silent as a shadow,
Much meaner than a shark.
I creep around my kingdom,
I yearn to scratch and bite.
To hiss and howl and disembowel,
I’m master of the night!
Until… Oh help! Please, not that sound!
The only thing I fear!
“Come on Fluffy! Come on puss!
Get yourself back ‘ere!”

Keep an eye out for our own poems next week!
